Cuomo: “Gyms And Salons; They’re Not Major Spreaders On The Numbers”; Still Can’t Open

Governor Andrew Cuomo today said gyms and salons are “not major spreaders on the numbers”. This comes despite less than two weeks ago, him claiming they were leading spreaders and needed to close.

With his new claim, they still don’t have the green light to open in places including Erie County that are stuck in an Orange Zone, with no guidance of when they can open.

Despite the ban in many parts of the county, people are still able to travel to neighboring Niagara County, and even North Tonawanda. For some, that means they can get a haircut on one side of the canal, but if they walk 100 feet across the bridge, they can’t. The zones have frustrated many business owners who say they are losing business to other counties.

With Cuomo’s new claims, and continual statements of “follow the science”, the governor has still not released any numbers or data showing where spreads are coming from.

Health department officials in Monroe County and Niagara County, have said there have been no cases traced back to gyms or salons in their respective counties.

In an interview last week at a protest in Orchard Park, salon owners at Elle Salon, in Amherst and Hamburg expressed their frustrations. They have had nearly 3000 check ins and zero cases physically and no cases traced back to them either.
